Autosampler for efficient Battery Recycling analysis

Do you operate in the battery recycling industry? Do you perform routine quality control tests on Black Mass (BM)? If so, you are most likely conducting ICP-OES analyses to determine the elemental composition and purity of waste battery components. In this context, it is essential that your ICP-OES system is configured to provide accurate quantification of high-value elements such as lithium, nickel, cobalt, and manganese, while also enabling you to verify whether recycled materials meet the quality requirements necessary for safe and effective reuse.

Choosing the right ICP-OES system is crucial, but giving the same careful consideration to your automation system is equally important. First of all, the autosampler must be capable of safely handling acid digests of Black Mass samples, as well as the hazardous substances contained in battery waste. It must also ensure high reliability, consistent throughput, and strict contamination control. For automating ICP-OES analyses in battery recycling applications, the autosampler of choice is the HT1200I

The HT1200I supports sealed sample and reagent tubes, which is a critical advantage when working with aggressive acid digests. Sealed tubes significantly reduce the release of corrosive vapors, providing a safer working environment for laboratory personnel. By limiting exposure to these vapors, the HT1200I also helps protect ICP-OES instrumentation, extending equipment lifetime and reducing maintenance costs, which is particularly important under the harsh chemical conditions typical of battery recycling laboratories. The sealing of the tubes is also important to prevent dripping from the sample probe and the resulting cross-contamination. In addition, the integrated rinse station in the HT1200I cleans the sample probe both internally and externally, further minimizing cross-contamination between samples and effectively bringing carry-over to nearly zero.
With the capacity to hold three sample racks simultaneously, accommodating up to 180 samples per batch, the HT1200I enables high-productivity, unattended operation, making it ideal for the routine analysis of waste battery components. Its compatibility with both standard tube racks and custom sample vessels provides the flexibility needed to adapt to different digestion protocols and laboratory standards.
